SUMMARY:
The Stamping Maintenance Technician at Magna Exteriors – Engineered Glass is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing stamping presses, dies, and related auxiliary equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production. This role is heavily focused on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and press-related systems, with electrical and controls work primarily supporting equipment uptime and diagnostics. In addition to stamping presses, the technician is expected to support and maintain other production and facility equipment as required, contributing to overall plant reliability and operational continuity. The technician supports production, maintenance, and manufacturing engineering teams with press changeovers, die setups, preventative maintenance, breakdown response, and continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities increase by level, allowing technicians to develop deeper expertise in press systems, supporting equipment, and advanced troubleshooting. This position may require irregular work schedules and involves exposure to high voltage, loud noise, chemicals, and hazardous materials ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Level 1: Performs work center start up and shut down processes. Support change over functions on stamping presses as well as other equipment Respond quickly to production issues, minimize downtime, and ensure equipment availability Documents all repairs and PM’s using CMMS system. Troubleshoot and repair stamping press components, pneumatics, and hydraulics. Conduct stamping press related functions such as lubrication system check, shut height verification and die alignment. Understand production metrics and escalation procedures. Perform basic electrical troubleshooting to support stamping press and other production equipment. Updates technical staff through attending crossover meetings and updating equipment logs. Comply with all company health, safety, and environmental policies as well as applicable federal, state, and local regulations; properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials. Perform other duties as assigned. Level 2: Same as above, plus: Independently troubleshoot complex stamping press issues Perform stamping press component repair, replacement or rebuilds Read and interpret mechanical drawings and hydraulic schematics. Read and interpret electrical schematics and pneumatic prints. Use PLC and HMI interfaces to monitor and troubleshoot faults. Replace hydraulic/pneumatic components Use gauging fixtures for quality verification. Assist in training less experienced technicians on stamping press operations, maintenance and troubleshooting Comply with all company health, safety, and environmental policies as well as applicable federal, state, and local regulations; properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials. Perform other duties as assigned. Level 3: Same as above, plus: Lead complex troubleshooting and root cause analysis for chronic press downtime or quality issues. Perform and oversee major press overhauls, rebuilds, and upgrades. Provide technical input on new stamping press installation and equipment modifications. Support die protection systems, tonnage monitoring and press safety upgrades Contribute to engineering design through blueprint and drawing creation. Provide technical training and guidance to production and maintenance staff. support skills assessments and recommend or deliver additional training as needed. Comply with all company health, safety, and environmental policies as well as applicable federal, state, and local regulations; properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials. Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in problem-solving, continuous improvement, and other departmental projects as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Level 1: 1-3 years in mechanical / automation machine repair. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, update, and work on all equipment in designated area of responsibility. Demonstrated mechanical knowledge including pneumatics and electrical required. Demonstrated good interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills to communicate with internal and external contacts and work in a team environment. English proficiency required, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred. Level 2: Meets all Level 1 requirements plus: Associate’s degree in a technical discipline and / or significant amount of related work experience or completion of apprenticeship as mechanic or electrician (i.e. journeyman card) and 2-3 years of experience in an automation environment. 4-6 years of related experience including troubleshooting and repairing automation systems, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Ability to modify existing programs in Allen Bradley PLCs and update HMI applications. Hands-on experience with industrial robotics (ABB preferred) including troubleshooting and minor program adjustments. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams. Level 3: Meets all Level 2 requirements plus: 7+ years of progressive automation / maintenance experience with advanced programming and troubleshooting responsibilities. Demonstrated expertise in rebuilding machinery and complex system integration (hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, robotic). Advanced ability to create and modify PLC ladder logic, HMI applications, and pneumatic/electrical diagrams. Proficiency in calibrating vision systems and performing advanced robot path modifications. Knowledge of GD&T and use of precision measurement/metrology instruments. Ability to contribute to design reviews and ensure compliance with codes safety standards and maintainability requirements.
