A Day in the Life:

The Manager, Automation Development and Support is responsible for leading the development, installation, performance, and long‑term technology roadmap of automation process control systems across the region. This role oversees system architecture, software applications supporting facility control, day‑to‑day support of automation systems, and the translation of operational needs into scalable, efficient solutions. By promoting innovation and driving cost reductions through improved system functionality, this role plays a critical part in enhancing operational reliability, safety, and productivity. The position manages a team of five employees and oversees the work of nine contractors.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead and approve the design, development, testing, and implementation of PLC and HMI applications supporting facility-wide control systems.
  • Manage day‑to‑day support and continuous improvement of automation and electrical control systems, ensuring reliability, standardization, and cost efficiency.
  • Ensure governance, compliance, and risk management through audits, coding standards, functional requirements, and safety-related controls.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership, including system architecture planning, budget participation, performance monitoring, and coordination across multiple projects.
  • Lead and develop the automation team, including hiring, performance management, training, coaching, and fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Skills/Experience Requirements:

  • Ability to use knowledge of the company’s business and strategy to develop innovative solutions.

  • Strong results orientation with the ability to prioritize, organize, and prepare teams for change.
  • Proven ability to lead effectively in a team‑based environment.
  • Strong understanding of process control systems.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and detail‑oriented thinking.
  • Strong oral, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and influence others when needed.
  • Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical, or Instrumentation.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience with industrial controls in a customer‑facing environment.
