Automation & Robotics Specialist Summary
- Annual salary range of $80k – 110k.

The Automation & Robotics Specialist plays a key role in turning client requirements into fully engineered automated machinery and robotic systems. Working alongside our Design Team, this position is responsible for the complete automation lifecycle — from interpreting customer needs and selecting equipment, to producing accurate electrical designs, developing complete PLC/HMI/robot programs, and supporting commissioning. Automation & Robotics Specialist Job Duties
- Interpret customer requirements and develop complete automation concepts, including equipment selection and control architecture, this includes site visits as required.
- Produce accurate electrical designs, schematics, and panel layouts for custom automated machinery and robotic systems.
- Develop structured, reliable PLC, HMI, and robot programs that meet project standards and client expectations.
- Collaborate with mechanical designers, electricians, and shop personnel during machine build, integration, and testing.
- Perform occasional field service work, including troubleshooting, system optimization, and support for deployed equipment. This may involve configuring, programing, and troubleshooting various brands of PLC, HMI, Robots, VFDs, or vision systems.
- Participate in the quoting process for robotics and automation projects.
- Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, and project planning discussions.
- Work directly with trades, designers, and engineers to ensure build intent is fully achieved.
- Maintain an ongoing commitment to learning and professional development. By learning of emerging technologies and gaining experience with additional brands of automation hardware.
- Troubleshoot industrial networks.

Automation & Robotics Specialist Basic Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Automation, Controls, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial electrical design, controls, and programing.
- Solid understanding of standard electrical & automation practice.
- Experience using CAD systems to produce professional electrical drawings.
- Hands on robotic experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of applicable workplace compliance regulations, codes, and legislation (local, provincial, federal).
- Team player with good interpersonal/customer service skills and a positive attitude
- Self starter, ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
- Excellent critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
Automation & Robotics Specialist Preferred Qualifications
- Proven experience designing automated machinery or robotic systems from concept through commissioning.
- Strong proficiency with PLC programming (AllenBradley, Siemens, Omron) and HMI development.
- Experience programing industrial robots (ABB, Fanuc, Kuka, UR…), both on machine and using virtual environment software.
- Experience with industrial vision system (Cognex, Keyence…).
- Experience troubleshooting industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, etc.).
- Solid understanding of electrical design principles, industrial control systems, and safety standards.
- Additional education or certifications in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Robotics, or related disciplines.
Automation & Robotics Specialist Work Conditions
- Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
- Overtime may be required.
- Travel to client location, construction sites and other off-site locations may be required.
- Lifting or moving up to 50 lbs. may be required.
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
- Valid Driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Working both indoors and outdoors required
