Job Title: Software Design Team Lead

Compensation: $50.00 - $60.00 / hr

The Position:
Reporting to the Controls Engineering Manager, the Software Design Lead will drive Software Design standards development and be a primary resource for highly technical issues relating to Software Design. The Software Design Lead will assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures relating to Software Design and consult regularly with department personnel to improve performance and quality. The Software Design Lead will lead department technology and programming projects and ensure project goals are met, while delivering the Eclipse Vision and the Eclipse Entrepreneurial Culture.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Recognize problems, initiate action, assist in problem solving, and evaluate results on major issues related to Software Design
- Advise and support training and technical development initiatives for resources within Software Design
- Develop and contribute to the improvement of Software Design programming standards at Eclipse
- Assist Software Designers and Engineering Supervision to ensure new programming methods and standards are clearly understood and executed on projects
- Meet with vendors regularly and research new technologies, software platforms, and trends in programming techniques that can improve Software Design quality and performance
- Assist Applications Engineering and participate in conceptual designs that will give Eclipse a competitive edge on new customer proposals
Leadership
- Teach, assist, and advise Software Designers on practical programming practices and standards
- Assist with interviews and recruitment efforts to meet Software Design growth targets
- Consult with the Controls Engineering Manager, Engineering Supervision, and other departments within Eclipse on Software Design standards improvements
- Direct, organize, and coordinate Eclipse internal projects to ensure deliverables are met
- Work to specific project budgets and timelines provided by Project Management
- Promote positive relations within Eclipse as well as partners, customers, vendors, and distributors
- Recommend Eclipse Database improvements on an ongoing basis to increase efficiency throughout the company
- Maintain good corporate citizen role in support of the Eclipse corporate vision and confidentiality ensuring that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Eclipse Automation Inc. Conduct Code
Project Execution
- Lead internal technology and process improvement projects
- Update project completion with respect to weekly confirmation of critical milestones, labour hours, and percent completion on projects
- Ensure Scheduled milestones are met
- Update Open Issues List as required
- Ensure that Company ISO Standards are followed
- Contribute with responses to CARs issued to the department
- Assist Project Leads and team members on project-related tasks where required
Travel
- Expectation of travel up to 20% of the time, however this may be exceeded in exceptional circumstances to meet project or company needs
What We're Looking For:
- Has successfully completed either a University Degree or College Diploma in Electrical, Systems, Mechatronics, or Robotics Automation Technology
- Must have senior level experience with programming and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens platforms
- Experience with electrical controls and integration of equipment
- 7+ years of experience in the custom automation industry
- Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to motivate teams within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects
- Facilitate and actively participate in group/project meetings
