Position Scope The Automation Designer or Specialist will be primarily responsible for the design, testing, and development of industrial electric and controls systems for our new products. This role involves collaborating with the mechanical design team, subject matter experts, fabricators, and electricians throughout the entire electrical design process—from conceptualization, detailed design, through testing, analysis, and refinement, to commercialization of our new products. From time to time, the automation designer will also work with our testing team in the testing-based iteration and development of our new systems. The ideal candidate will possess a background in electronics and controls, demonstrate a solid understanding of electrical and control principles, and be capable of balancing company cost considerations with customer value. A positive attitude, excellent communication skills, and openness to new ideas and challenges are essential. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain electrical drawings, documentation, and bills of materials for control panels across various new product development projects. Write functional description documents for our new equipment. Develop PLC/HMI programs for various machines. Design power distribution drawings (24VDC, 120VAC, 480VAC, 575VAC, etc.) Design control system drawings (PLC I/O, instruments, VFDs, motion control, and panel layouts). Collaborate with the testing team on design verification of new equipment builds. Develop network architecture diagrams (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.) Generate bills of materials using components from Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, Rittal, Hoffman, and others. Provide field installation support and develop cable schedules as needed. Support and participate in control panel Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) Understand and follow FPS Autodesk Vault practices and documentation management procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Abilities Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Technologist, or a related discipline A minimum of 2 years of engineering experience is required. Experience specializing in food processing equipment or related design is considered an asset Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical Knowledge of PLC languages (Allen Bradley, RX Logix, Siemens and HMIs (RS Studio). Knowledge of relevant electrical standards (UL, CSA, CE) is considered an asset EGBC registration as a P.Eng. or EIT is an asset Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team Comfortable managing multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences We are looking for a candidate who can join our team and bring to the table strong automation skills.
