Under the direction of the Manager, Operations Systems, this role supports, maintains, and enhances automation and control systems used across Purolator operational facilities such as hubs and terminals. The position focuses on system availability, operational performance, and scalable automation solutions.
Responsibilities Responsibilities include operational technology support for supervisory control systems such as SCADA and HMI platforms, on-site OT maintenance, end-to-end troubleshooting across devices, networks, and automation layers, software and hardware version control, controller firmware upgrades, and preventive/corrective maintenance for vision systems, dimension-weight-scan tunnels, label printers, handheld scanners, and other automation equipment.
The role develops, configures, and maintains industrial applications using Ignition, including Perspective, Vision, Tags, Gateways, Scripting, and Reporting. It also creates dashboards and HMIs, validates automation workflows and sortation/tracking logic, builds and executes test plans, integrates controls with databases, APIs, and enterprise systems, and recommends sort-plan improvements for throughput and reliability.
Systems and infrastructure work includes maintaining and troubleshooting network infrastructure, monitoring servers, virtual machines, network devices, and storage systems, recommending OT security improvements, maintaining backup and recovery plans, managing Hyper-V and supporting hardware, working with SQL-based platforms, maintaining Grafana-style monitoring dashboards, supporting UPS systems, and managing spare parts for critical automation infrastructure.
Qualifications Qualifications include post-secondary education in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field, plus at least 5 years of experience supporting industrial automation, OT, or control systems.
Relevant experience includes SCADA systems, industrial control platforms, server hardware and operating systems, virtualization, Ethernet and industrial wireless networks, vision/OCR systems, SQL databases, backup and monitoring tools, PLCs, industrial communication protocols, field I/O, label printers, handheld scanning devices, Ignition SCADA development, and data visualization for operational dashboards.
Experience with instrumentation, automation, process-control networks, Profinet, Modbus, OPC UA, logistics/courier/transportation operations, and technical project leadership is considered valuable.
