Position Summary This Electrical Engineer role designs machine panels for Scot Forge machinery, including new and retrofitted capital equipment, ancillary plant equipment, and plant power distribution layouts across three facilities.

Company Background Scot Forge is a 100% employee-owned manufacturer of custom open-die and rolled-ring forgings used in infrastructure, energy, transportation, manufacturing, mining, defense, aerospace, and other demanding applications.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Support and participate in efforts to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Define scope for new and retrofit electrical projects.
  • Determine fit, form, function, and specification of electrical equipment for presses, furnaces, heat treat equipment, machine tools, and other manufacturing equipment.
  • Research and develop new equipment, components, and technologies.
  • Create electrical circuit designs, schematics, machinery panel layouts, and machine electrical layouts.
  • Select electrical components such as panels, motor control centers, motors, HMIs, drives, controllers, instrumentation, and sensors.
  • Create and update plant electrical layouts and schematics.
  • Specify plant equipment and components and support Arc Flash studies.
  • Size components and design electrical systems for code compliance, safety, and reliability using analysis, validation, and due diligence.
  • Support quoting and procurement for electrical and combustion components and systems, including budgeting, ROI, specification, contract review, selection, negotiation, and purchasing.
  • Support maintenance and operations continuous improvement through scoping, design, execution, and validation.
  • Coordinate with project managers, outside contractors, vendors, internal team members, technicians, and other technical disciplines.
  • Produce scope documentation for outsourced work and manage outsourced projects or resources.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical systems and oversee startup of new or updated equipment.
  • Mentor and train electrical technical team members and support production during off-shift hours when needed.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with power distribution and machine electrical design.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting ability and strong electrical aptitude.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and NFPA codes and standards.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, strong communication and organization skills, and ability to work safely in a shop environment.

Additional Information This is a 100% onsite role primarily located in Spring Grove, IL, with occasional travel to Scot Forge plants in Franklin Park, IL and Clinton, WI. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship and must be able to pass the required pre-employment drug test.

Working Conditions The role balances office and shop work. During equipment builds, shutdowns, and troubleshooting, the engineer may be exposed to heat, cold, dust, debris, fumes, noise, elevated work, confined spaces, physical movement, hydraulic and electrical hazards up to 4160 volts, suspended loads, chemicals, hot product, combustion hazards, and PPE requirements including harnesses and arc-flash gear.
